Cetim’s Research & Development strategy 2024-2027 is now available for download on our website.
Every four years, Cetim, the technical center of mechanical industry, draws up a strategic R&D roadmap to equip the French mechanical engineering industry with the means to meet the demographic, ecological, health and social challenges of our time. A methodological process spanning nine months, involving consultation with manufacturers and professional organizations, as well as the compilation of 150 Roadmaps… all steered by a Scientific and Technical Committee (STC made up of manufacturers, representatives of prime contractors and technological research).
The importance of pooling research resources
At Cetim, defining R&D strategy is a collective exercise carried out in line with the objectives assigned by the Board of Directors and relayed by the STC.
R&D is not a private preserve! On the contrary, supporting and accelerating innovation within the mechanical engineering industry is a major challenge. Innovation is not possible without a rapid access to finalized R&D. This is Cetim’s core mission for an industrial fabric essentially made up of SMEs and VSEs, for whom the pooling of research resources is crucial. The subject takes on its full importance in view of what the mechanical engineering industry represents: linked to all other sectors, a supplier to all markets, it is made up of companies that export strongly (38.4% of export sales in 2023). As such, it represents a structuring element of the national production system. Innovation is therefore of paramount importance, serving the goal of sustainable reindustrialization.
Massive industrial involvement
This strategy is embodied in concrete projects, backed by an annual budget of 100 million euros. And because the role of a technical center like Cetim, which has held the Carnot label from the outset, is not to operate in a vacuum, more than 2,000 French manufacturers are actively involved in the implementation of these shared projects, not only by prioritizing initiatives, but also by contributing to the framing of the work. A win-win collaborative approach for greater relevance, impact and efficiency. All this, with a sharing of technical understanding and case studies…
