Investing to produce better and cleaner

The specialist in internal gear pumps is diversifying the applications for its products while opting for a more flexible and environmentally-friendly production tool.

The case

Suntec Industries is well known for its pumps used in heating systems that run on fossil fuels. To stay ahead of the game, the Burgundy-based SME has decided to completely overhaul its business model, products and production facilities.

Faced with the shift from fossil fuels to biofuels, the company designed ranges of pumps to keep pace with this change, and looked for ways to diversify. This process was launched with the support of a consultant as part of the Coriin programme in Bourgogne- Franche-Comté. In response to an unprecedented request from a customer to develop a small pump to power a heating system fitted in electric buses, the Burgundy-based company took up the challenge, guided by two consultants, and quickly realised that “to manufacture this pump, we needed new equipment and therefore investment” , explains Laurent Chevalier, Chairman of the company.

If you're going to invest, you might as well take the plunge into the ecological and energy transition and the industry of the future. Assisted by Cetim in the selection of its solution, Suntec Industries invested in a Chiron cell comprising two twin-spindle machining centres and a robot.

Radical change

Complete redesign, installation of a new production tool - for the SME, this represented a major Force. But the challenge has been met! “We are now the exclusive supplier to this customer" , notes the Chairman. What's more, Suntec has taken the opportunity to adapt the pump to other applications. "We are now working on the second stage. Our aim is to cover virtually all our machining needs. This will enable us to adopt an eco-design approach, even for our traditional pumps, to review our pairing dimensions and therefore machine less, thereby improving our carbon footprint" , says the Chairman of Suntec Industries. A second cell is due to join the workshop in 2025.
